Django Unchained, the latest film from Quentin Tarantino, hits theaters on Christmas Day, and if you’re a fan of the director, you probably won’t be disappointed.
Having read the script, Django is quintessential Tarantino, an entertaining, epic adventure that should be enormous fun.
Django is also sure to be a controversial film, but having read the script I truly don’t feel it’s a gratuitous or race baiting film, even though its subject matter, slavery, is certainly a hot button topic.
So right before Tarantino’s latest is unleashed, a massive box set retrospective of his career – dubbed the Tarantino XX: 8-Film Collection – will be hitting shelves on November 20.
It’s hard to believe that Tarantino’s first film, Reservoir Dogs went live twenty years ago, but he did indeed rewrite the rules of indie film all that time ago. Two years later, Pulp Fiction changed indie films forever, proving that art house films could indeed be blockbusters.
After that, Tarantino returned with the smaller, character driven Jackie Brown, which was written off in its time, but is now his lost classic. He finally came back strong with the Kill Bill films, then Inglourious Basterds, and he should keep on cruising with Django.
As Collider confirms, the above-mentioned box set includes Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill Volume One and Two, Inglourious Basterds, True Romance (which was written by Tarantino and helmed by the late Tony Scott), and Death Proof, which was his segment of Grindhouse.
This is a ten-disc set, and as you can guess, it’s loaded with tons of extras, five hours worth on two discs, including documentaries, audio commentaries, critics commentaries, and much more. All this can be yours for a cool $119.99 on November 20, and it should indeed be interesting to trace and revisit all of Tarantino’s work leading up to Django in December.
