Comics aren’t just for pasty white geeks anymore, the fandom covers a wide spectrum of people, including (gasp!) women. There haven’t been as many African American superheroes as we’d like, but that’s been changing lately with The Falcon coming to Captain America, and a Black Panther movie in the works.
Now there’s reports that the next Spider-Man may be African American as well. This has been clearly marked as a rumor by Collider, and this rumor comes in the wake of Spider-Man being revived yet again at Sony.
Andrew Garfield won’t be coming back to the franchise, and a reporter for The Wrap has also flat out said on a podcast, “I’m telling you right now, Spider-Man’s not gonna be white. I’m 95% sure. Spider-Man’s gonna be, most likely, black. But there’s a chance he could also be Latino. 95% sure, not white.”
So if there’s any truth to these rumors, we say bring it on. We’re all for diversity in genre geek stuff, and the more people coming to the party, the better.
