Social networking company Twitter is to start selling wines with profits going to a charity promoting literacy.
According to SF Weekly, the wines will be branded as Fledgling Wines and created in cooperation with Crushpad.
According to the Twitter site www.fledglingwine.com, every case of wine sold will pay for 60 local language childrens’ books and help to promote literacy in the world’s poorest regions.
Biz Stone and Evan Williams, the Twitter founders, say that this initiative connects to two elements of the firm’s mission – giving access to information and highlighting open communication.
For every bottle of wine bought, $5 will be donated on Room to Read. “The efforts of Room to Read will benefit literacy, and in doing so, they’ll allow Twitter to grow,” say the duo.
