While we like the look of the new Joker for Suicide Squad, and will suspend all judgement on Jared Leto playing him until we see the movie, there’s of course always going to be net reaction, good, bad or indifferent, and there’s been some pretty funny Twitter comments already.
As Collider reports, there have been several wiseguys posting pictures of Macaley Culkin with green hair and “damaged” tattooed on his forehead, and another fan joked, “Does anyone know what stage the new Joker is playing at the Warped Tour?”
Another fan tweeted, “’Looks stupid. Nothing will ever top Nicholson’s Joker’- Internet message boards, circa 2007.” And regarding that “damaged” tattoo, another tweet joked, “Next: Hamelt with ‘To Be or Not to Be’ as a tramp stamp.” The last one that made me laugh was one entertainment reporter who tweeted under a picture of Leto’s Joker, “Scream if you just ate all the Oreos!” (And indeed, the dude’s teeth look way nasty.)
We should take all of this in good fun, and always remember a lot of people were initially against Heath Ledger as the Joker until he delivered a knock-out performance, so we’re curious to see if Leto can reinvent the character again when Suicide Squad is unleashed in 2016.
