Away from the computer and the mobile web, there’s a whole lot of music going on. It’s time for Unplugging with our friends at Mxdwn.com.
The experimental rock collaboration consisting of Rage Against the Machine’s Zach de la Rocha and The Mar’s Volta’s Jon Theodore have announced shows in Los Angeles, CA and Pomona, CA. Locust’s Joey Karam will join the duo for the performances. That’s not all de la Rocha has planned – the Rage Against the Machine frontman is still fighting SB 1070, Arizona’s anti-immigration law. Joining Conor Oberst and the rest of the Sound Strike, he has planned a benefit concert for July 23rd at the Hollywood Palladium featuring none other than Rage Against the Machine. All proceeds from the show will benefit organizations, student groups, activists, legal defense funds, and more to combat the law. Also this week, HARD L.A was cancelled after a teenager’s death at Electric Daisy Carnival led to security concerns. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors wishes to appoint a task force to examine and improve “rave safety.” Don’t let that bum you out though – several festivals and tours have been announced that sound pretty legendary. Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax are heading out on tour this fall and resurrecting the line up from their classic 1991 “Clash of the Titans” tour. Treasure Island Festival and punk festival Riot Fest both announced stellar line-ups. And if that isn’t enough, Ted Leo has announced a fall tour (yeah, he definitely isn’t retiring from music.)
