Other than the JJ Abrams reboot of Star Wars, there’s one other movie that will be the most anticipated flick of 2015: Avengers Age of Ultron. James Spader is on board to play Ultron, and now Thomas Krestschmann is onboard to play Baron Wolfgang von Strucker.
Krestschmann stars as Van Helsing on the NBC show Dracula, and also onboard Avengers 2 is Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, and Aaron Taylor Johnson as Quicksilver. There’s no word yet when Avengers 2 will be filming, but it should be rolling soon, because it’s scheduled to come out May 1, 2015.
Scarlett Johansson told Cinema Blend the script for the next Avengers movie is “dark and dry. It’s got this amazing one-liner, glass-cutting sense of humor. The script is very cerebral. It doesn’t lose that exciting comic book aspect that people enjoyed in the first film, but it’s smart and it feels like the next installment.
“It doesn’t feel like a rehashing,” Johansson continues. “It feels like these characters are moving forward, plotlines are moving forward. IT’s deep and I think that’s why people really respond to the Marvel universe, because the films are fun and exciting and have all that flashy stuff, but there’s a gravity to them. People can expect that gravity this time around.”
These days, filmmakers know the fans expect the sequels to movies to be as good, if not better, than the original, so Joss Whedon knows the next Avengers flick has to deliver. Hopefully Johansson’s observations about the Ultron script are correct, and the next movie will indeed be a worthy follow up. (We already know it’s going to make a sh*tload of dough no matter what.)
