There’s World of Warcraft, Starcraft, Ragnarok, and…Michael Jackson?
SEE Virtual Worlds has lifted the veil on a game called Planet Michael: The Ultimate Michael Jackson Online Game. It describes the game as “a world inspired by the King of Pop’s enduring artistry and heart.”
Apparently the game will allow people to immerse themselves in the life of Michael Jackson and everything that goes ith that.
“Make yourself a home on Planet Michael where old and new friends can appreciate the magic of his music and his commitment to spreading messages of love and peace,” reads the product description.
Like other online gamers, Planet Michael will have to complete challenges and defeat opponents. But rather than shooting bows and arrows or summoning magic spells, players will dance.
“There is no doubt we will be open to people joking about it and criticizing it. We’ll just have to roll with that as it comes, so to speak. He’s such a big name and he’s such a big legend that no matter what we do, we are going to get a lot of people who are excited, and we are going to get people who criticize us,” said developer Josh Gordon in a USA Today interview.
Details on what kind of monthly fee and/or in-game transactions would be associated with the game were not disclosed. Neither has an official release date. But if there’s one pop star who could make a compelling game that thousands of people would want to play for hours every day, it would be Michael Jackson.
Clearly the Jackson family must have given their blessing to this project. Who knows how big of a cut they’re getting? Well, it’s an interesting announcement nonetheless.
This comes just before the release of Ubisoft’s Michael Jackson: The Experience video game, which is set to debut on the Wii, DS, and PSP for the holiday season. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are due out next year. Planet Michael will be released on the PC.
