US District Judge William Alsup has ordered Psystar to permanently halt sales of unauthorized Mac clones.
?
According to AppleInsider, Alsup also banned the controversial manufacturer from copying, selling, distributing or creating derivative works of Mac OS X without authorization from Apple.
In addition, Psystar was warned against intentionally inducing or assisting individuals and entities from infringing Apple’s copyrighted OS X software.
However, Alsup stopped short of forcing Psystar to cease sales of its $50 Rebel EFI Hackintosh patch. Nevertheless, the judge opined that Psystar’s justification for distribution of the patch was unlikely to be approved by any future court of law.
“Whether such a defense would be successful on the merits, or face preclusion or other hurdles, this order cannot predict,” Alsup explained in a statement obtained by AppleInsider. ??”What is certain, however, is that until such a motion is brought, Psystar will be selling Rebel EFI at its peril, and risks finding itself in contempt if its new venture falls within the scope of the injunction.”
