It’s been rumored for some time, and now we’re very happy to announce that Guitar Hero is indeed coming back this Fall.
According to Rolling Stone, the new game will be called Guitar Hero Live, and it will be the first new Guitar Hero game we’ve had in five years. The new game will also mark the ten year anniversary of the first game. (Has it been that long?)
As Stone tells us, Guitar Hero is now being done by FreeStyleGames, and it will “combine the familiar functionality of a guitar controller with new features such as first-person point of view and a 24-hour music video network called GHTV” which will be “the world’s first playable video network.”
This all sounds cool to us, but we’re curious how today’s generation will cotton to Guitar Hero. We thought the whole phenomenon was pretty cool when it happened, but it didn’t have the staying power that games like Halo and Call of Duty currently enjoy. We’ll also be watching to see what effect, if any, it could have on today’s music industry, and whether it can garner some royalties for some bands who haven’t been paid in a while.
