So now it’s official there’s going to be a new model Ghostbusters with an all female ‘busters team. How does the man who created Ghostbusters, Dan Aykroyd, feel about all this?
The Hollywood Reporter tells us that the famed Canadian comedian has said in a statement, “The Aykroyd family is delighted by this inheritance of the Ghostbusters torch by these most magnificent women in comedy…this is a beautiful development in the legacy of our family business.”
While we were never sure if a new ‘Busters would ever get the greenlight, it’s now official that the Bridesmaids team is taking it on, and it has a release date of July 22, 2016. We’re not sure if any of the original ‘Busters gang will be back or not, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Aykroyd has a role, even if it’s just for a small appearance.
Again, we’re all for Ghostbusters getting a fresh start, and we hope the next one will finally redeem the legacy of the series. It certainly won’t make a perfect trilogy, but two out of three ain’t bad.
