You know that superhero teams are the big thing right now, and they should be hitting their peak this May with Avengers Age of Ultron. Now Marvel has had a big press conference for their Secret Wars.
As Uproxx tells us, the editor in chief of Marvel, Axel Alonso, and comic editor Tom Brevort, tried to explain what the concept is at a press conference. “Once you hit Secret Wars #1, there’s no Marvel Universe, there’s no Ultimate Universe. It’s all Battleworld. None of these stories are alternate reality stories.”
We know, we know, that doesn’t make sense, but you get the impression it’s going to be rebooted from the ground up, and an alternate Marvel universe will be the new norm, except Marvel doesn’t like the term reboot.
It’s an odd thing to try to explain, but comics writer Brian Michael Bendis told Seth Meyers, “The Marvel universe is going to be altered. We have the Marvel universe, and the ultimate Marvel universe, and they will be smashed together. The whole Marvel universe is going to be different.”
It’s hard to tell how well this will or won’t be received. Comic fans usually don’t respond well to gimmicks, or changes that are too radical, and if done wrong, this could be the comics equivalent of New Coke. We’ll see how it all shakes out when Secret Wars becomes available on May 6.
