BYD continues its plot for world domination of green vehicle technologies, mostly seen in the mass transit sector, with the recent unveiling of a new plug-in hybrid “intended to target key world markets.”
Though this at the moment remains limited to China, plans could call for a similar model to appear in Europe as early as next year.
The Qin, according to BYD, is capable of accelerating over 60 miles per hour in under six seconds, and has a top speed of 115 miles per hour. Fuel consumption is 1.6 L/100km (177mpg), and when driven in pure electric mode one can eek out of this hybrid up to 44 miles of zero emissions range.

As the car is a plug-in hybrid, its battery can be recharged by either plugging it into a wall socket or using regenerative braking technology. The latter is said to contribute up to 2.5 to 3 kWh every 100km (62 miles). The vehicle as well is capable of four driving modes that are user selectable.
Features of the Qin include a 12.1-inch TFT instrument panel, smart key system, a remote driving function that allows the car to be maneuvered “remotely at very low speed from the outside of the vehicle where permissible” and advanced Internet connectivity that offers “interactive experiences” for those in the car.
There was no mention if BYD has plans to bring this model to American shores.
