In less than a year, there will be a new Christopher Nolan movie in theaters, Interstellar. This is Nolan’s first foray into science fiction, and the trailer doesn’t reveal much because the movie’s still being filmed, but it certainly gives the viewer enough to whet their appetites.
Sounding a little bit like a politician running for office, Matthew McConaughey’s voice over tells us, “We’ve always defined ourselves by the ability to overcome the impossible. And we count these moments, these moments when we’ve dared to aim higher, to break barriers, to reach for the stars, to make the unknown known.”
This speech is intercut with footage of a fire in a cornfield, and footage of astronauts in outer space. For a brief moment, we also a tiny piece of the famous moon landing speech. When McConaughey delivers the trailer’s final line, we see a spacecraft taking off for the skies while a little boy and girl hold hands: “…Our greatest accomplishments can not be behind us…our destiny lies above us.”
While plot points are, as you’d guess by now, tightly under wraps, the official thumbnail synopsis we’ve gathered from the Internet Movie Database is, “A group of explorers make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.”
Interstellar hits theaters on November 7, 2014, and along with McConaughey, the film stars Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, Wes Bentley, Michael Caine, John Lithgow, and more.
