The perfect chemistry of the Amazing Spider-Man

As we just reported here on TG, the first reviews are in for The Amazing Spider-Man, the reboot of the classic Marvel character, and it looks like the movie’s a winner.

Frankly, I didn’t know what to expect, and didn’t think rebooting it was such a great idea, but maybe now a restart is what the franchise needed, and it will be interesting to see how the new model Spider-Man fares when it comes out on July 3.

The first reviews for Spider-Man came in from overseas, and they were mostly positive, and both the major Hollywood trade magazines, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, gave it the thumbs up.

Like Collider pointed out, Variety also mentioned that Amazing Spider-Man “is gratifyingly more of a drama-with-action than a nonstop assault on the senses.”

The film has “a solid screenplay” and there’s “perfect chemistry” between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. The Hollywood Reporter also called it a “satisfying reboot,” and “a darker Spidey.”

There’s also a big cover feature on Amazing Spider-Man in Geek Monthly, where producer Avi Arad talks a bit about the fourth Spider-Man, which cause the Sam Raimi team to depart from the series, and Marc Webb also talks at length about the current reboot.

Arad said with the fourth film, “there was no natural hand to play. It wasn’t a clear out-of-the-comics story. Thisone was really out of itselement. The consensus was it was going to be a lot of work, and it probably wouldn’t play very well coming after [Spider-Man 3].” The Vulture was going to be the vaillain, “but with everything else, it didn’t fall into place,” Arad continues. “Sam came to the conclusion that it didn’t feel right.”

Arad also told Geek, “We have a Peter Parker we’ve always had, but we delve deeper, in terms of what makes him what he is, the way he handles himself and the way he interacts with society. He’s someone who knows right from wrong from his upbringing and only after gettingthis powers is where the mistakes begin. It’s like that old Abraham Lincoln quote, ‘Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.'”

Finally, when Marc Webb was asked how he would describe the new model Spider-Man to fans, he said, “It has such a wonderful emotional variety and I’m really proud of it. It has spectacle and ass-kicking and really good fights. There’s also romance, humanity and all the things that make Spider-Man fun and relatable.”
