Yes, the manufacturer of the 10-inch Android tablet has partnered with Gaikai for streaming video games directly to the tablet. Essentially, the deal means Gaikai’s software client will be integrated with the WikiPad, allowing users to play console quality games.
“We chose to partner with Gaikai’s game streaming service for its leading performance, graphics, and content,” explained WikiPad exec Fraser Townley.
“It is the leading game streaming solution with the best library of AAA games and we are thrilled to offer these high quality experiences to our users where Gaikai’s network is deployed.”
According to Townley, the WikiPad was designed with gamers in mind, as it boasts a set of controls on each side of the screen that are reminiscent of classic console controllers. Indeed, it appears this tablet will be geared to gaming with a D-pad and analog joystick on the left – along with an analog joystick and four buttons on the right. Personally, the control layout reminds me of a PS3 controller.
The tablet also has an optional 3G game module and supports 1080p HD graphics. I wonder whether the streaming video games will be accessible using the 3G module, which would likely burn through data allotments very quickly.
Another interesting optional accessory is a Wi-Fi-direct dongle that allows games to be played on HDTVs and larger monitors using the tablet as a controller. The WikiPad tablet is powered by a quad core processor and features 8 GB of storage, along with space for a microSD card slot.
