Luxury automobile manufacturer Mercedes Benz is celebrating 125 years in business and debuting a brand new futuristic hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in Germany at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2011 to mark the auspicious occasion.
Looking to the year 2025, designers at the company have created something part fuel cell vehicle and part plug-in hybrid. The new car, dubbed the F 125 F-CELL, features all-wheel driving, complete with four, individual torque electric motors, and boasts a projected 0 to 60-mph time of 4.9 seconds, with a top speed of 137 miles per hour.
Equipped with a 7.5 kilogram hydrogen tank and a rear seat installed 10 kilowatt-hour lithium-sulphur battery, the F 125 has a range just over 30 miles in all-electric mode, and approximately 621 miles in total range.
Gull-wing doors, seen above, are meant to provide easier access for up to four passengers in a saloon-style seating arrangement. Roughly 16 feet long, 6.5 feet wide, and 4.7 feet tall, the F 125 isn’t exactly a roomy car, but is certainly comfortable enough compared to modern cars of equal size. And besides, the extremely stylish body of the vehicle makes it look much more like a sports car than it does a typical sedan.
Of course the F 125 wouldn’t celebrate Mercedes’ anniversary properly without high-end additions like wireless Internet connection, 3D in-dash display, voice command technology, rear view display, and a retractable 17-inch screen that responds not to touch, but simply hand gestures.
The year 2025 is a long time from now, but should Mercedes ever actually produce a F 125 vehicle, we’ll likely our names on the top of the list for those first up to test drive the impressively forward-looking car.
