I’ve always thought one the most attractive electric vehicle on the market is the Tesla Model S. True, the Tesla is undeniably slick, but the Volar-e EV racecar makes the Model S look like a wallflower.
Indeed, the Volar-e is an electric vehicle prototype specifically designed to grab attention, and it does that exceptionally well.
Frankly, it reminds me a bit of the new Renault Alpine, only a bit curvier. As for the powertrain of this attractive vehicle, it has 1000 hp provided by four independently controlled electric motors. The car also features a regenerative braking system to capture power and help keep the battery charged. Perhaps the most interesting feature, aside from the style and horsepower figure, is that this prototype promises the ability to fully charge in just under 20 min.
The prototype vehicle took only four months to construct and was seen for the first time by the public this week at Circuit de Catalunya in Spain. It boasts four distinct driving modes including eco, dynamic, racing, and wet modes. The vehicle manufacturer wasn’t specific on what those modes will do, but we can make some educated guesses. Eco will likely maintain the longest driving distance, racing will be be the most power possible, while wet mode will focus on keeping traction. What dynamic mode does is anyone’s guess.
When it comes to performance, the electric vehicle is very impressive indeed, as it is capable of sprinting from a stop to 62 mph in only 3.4 seconds, with a top speed of 186 mph. According to the European Commission, the high-performance electric vehicle was built to promote electric vehicles in EU markets.
