Google is showcasing its newly-minted Chrome web store at the 2010 I/O conference in San Francisco.
The online shop is expected to offer shoppers access to a wide variety of games, magazines and applications.
“We believe it should be easier for users to discover web apps and for developers to reach a large audience,” explained Google spokesperson Erik Kay.
“Chrome users who find web apps in the store will be able to create convenient shortcuts in Chrome for easy access. Also, developers will have the option to easily sell their apps through the store using a convenient and secure payment system.”
Kay also emphasized that the Chrome web store would be accessible to anyone using a modern browser.
“Web apps listed in the Chrome Web Store are regular web applications that are built with standard web tools and technologies. The same web apps will run in other modern browsers that support these technologies.”
The Chrome Web Store is scheduled to open its doors for both users and developers later this year.
