Parallels runs Windows apps on the iPad

Parallels has introduced a mobile version of its virtualization platform that allows iOS users to remotely access Windows apps on their Apple mobile devices.

“iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch [owners can now] utilize Windows applications running on their [desktop or laptop] Macs [with Parallels Desktop 6] from any network, from anywhere, at any time,” a company spokesperson told TG Daily in an e-mailed statement.

“[Now] people can freely perform tasks that have been unavailable or limiting to iPad users such as printing, viewing Flash-based websites and full use of productivity applications like Outlook.”

Parallels Mobile was launched alongside version 6 of the company’s desktop Windows virtualization platform for the Mac, which has been benchmarked running approximately 40% faster than previous iterations of the software.

Desktop 6 also offers 80 new and enhanced features, including Spotlight integration, Mac OS X keyboard shortcut support in Windows apps, 5.1 surround sound, Virtual Machine encryption and enhanced 3D graphics.
