Earlier this week, Intel said reports of MeeGo’s unceremonious death at the hands of Nokia and Microsoft had been greatly exaggerated.
Although it doesn’t seem like MeeGo will be winning the smartphone or tablet war anytime soon, the nascent OS was recently spotted running on a 10.1-inch netbook.
According to Nicole Scott of Netbook News, the (DNS) device – which is targeted at the Russian market – features a 1.5 GHz Intel Atom N550 processor, GMA 3150 graphics and a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display.
Additional specs include:
- 1GB of RAM.
- 160GB hard drive. WiFi/Bluetooth.
- SD card slot.
- Weight – approximately 2.4 pounds.
Unfortunately, the battery only clocks in at 24WH, which translates into a paltry 2-3 hours of use time.
Still, as Nicole previously noted, MeeGo remains quite a versatile, open-source platform capable of powering a wide range of handsets, tablets and netbooks.
“And that may be why Nokia isn’t letting go of MeeGo just yet. MeeGo has long-term potential, the key word being potential.
“The ability to develop once and scale to multiple hardware platforms still has many developers wiping the drool off their chins.”
