Unveiled as “the first in a whole new generation of navigation devices,” TomTom today announced its Go Live 1000 GPS unit, the first from the company to sport a capacitive touchscreen display.
In addition to the more technologically impressive screen, TomTom has completely revamped the user interface for the 1000. The display is crisper, the maps are more detailed, and some new features are packed in – like an exhaustive list of parking facilities in the vicinity.
Not to be outdone, the 1000 also incorporates shiny new traffic technology and an in-house-developed algorithm called “IQ Routes” that TomTom claims will provide users with the quickest way to get to their destination, even if it’s different than what a static map would show. Support is also available for third-party apps, opening up the system for anyone who wants to tinker with it.
The device will also be available with new maps in 33 European countries, vastly expanding TomTom’s international exposure.
“Our customers are relying increasingly on their navigation devices and it is no longer about the destination alone, but also very much about the journey itself,” said TomTom’s managing director Corinne Vigreux. “The Go Live 1000 will get our customers to their destination easier, safer and faster than ever before.”
