Hardcore fans of mobile technology such as smartphones and tablets tend to get all excited when manufacturers announce new processors and platforms.
Then again, pretty much every smartphone and tablet owner appreciates faster performance when it comes to streaming video, playing video games, and executing other tasks using their mobile device.
Qualcomm offers some the best performing mobile processors on the market, with the company recently unveiling its new Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor. Interestingly, Qualcomm recently compared the new chip to a competitor’s 1.2-gigahertz quad-core processor. You do need to take these benchmarks with a grain of salt because Qualcomm didn’t bother to say which competitor’s product it’s comparing to.
Remember, benchmarks that don’t precisely spell out what hardware is being used on both sides always leave a bit of a bitter taste in the mouth of hard-core fans. The Snapdragon S400 is equipped with a dual-core Krait CPU paired with Adreno 305 graphics. The graphics chip promises impressive power, allowing the Snapdragon platform to significantly outperform its peers, at least according to the chip company.
You can check out the video of Qualcomm comparing its processor to the unnamed competitor, which, by the way, doesn’t mention anything about the specific device loaded with the Snapdragon 400 chip. Odds are it’s nothing but a prototype device running the company’s latest hardware inside.
Check out the video for yourself and see what you think. Hopefully, we’ll learn more about the device Qualcomm is comparing its new processor to, because offering up benchmarks like this without being completely up front always makes people dubious of the results.
