Ubuntu (and Firefox) phones showcased at MWC 2014

The first phones running Ubuntu are scheduled to ship later this year.

However, Chinese manufacturer Meizu and European designer BQ gave the industry a sneak peek by showing off two Ubuntu phones this week at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 in Barcelona.

According to Liliputing’s Brad Linder, Meizu’s MX3 is a 5.1 inch smartphone powered by a Samsung Exynos 5410 Octa CPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, an 8MP camera and a 1800 x 1080 pixel display.

The BQ Aquaris features a 4.5 inch display, a 1.2 GHz MediaTeak ARM Cortex-A7 quad-core processor, along with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.

Meanwhile, Mozilla jumped into the smartphone fray by introducing a long-awaited $25 Firefox smartphone based on a 1 GHz single core Spreadtrum ARM processor.
