Samsung is reportedly prepping a “Galaxy Gear” wearable computing device (smart watch) which the industry heavyweight is likely to debut at its “Unpacked Episode 2” event slated for September 4th.
As AppleInsider notes, the special media event was previously expected to showcase the company’s next-gen Galaxy Note III phablet. According to SamMobile, the smart watch will act as a companion device of sorts for Samsung Galaxy products.
Although Samsung has yet to release official specs or images, a patent filing processed earlier this month is thought to offer somewhat of a preview in terms of “Galaxy Gears” potential appearance.
Indeed, the filing describes a “wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band or bangle capable of providing access to the Internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails and messages.”
As previously discussed on TG Daily, Cupertino has also filed its own patent application for a wrist watch-like device and is currently attempting to obtain rademark rights for “iWatch” in a number of countries.
