It seems as if laptops are so 2010 – at least when it comes to what the masses want this holiday season.
According to a recent survey conducted by Experian, 79% of respondents said they would prefer a tablet rather than a laptop as a holiday gift this year.
Why, you ask?
Well, 85% preferred tablets because they are easy to carry and transport, 73% liked the tablet’s light weight, 67% cited convenience, while 67% were enamored by the uber-cool touchscreen.
Meanwhile, 60% said they liked the tablet’s smaller size, 56% felt they could use the tablet for reading on the go, 49% cited speed, 42% enjoyed multimedia features and 41% highlighted exceptional battery life.
Unsurprisingly, 83% of those surveyed said they wanted an Apple iPad for the holidays, while only 5% were interested in Amazon’s Kindle Fire, 4% for Samsung’s Galaxy Tab and 2% for HP’s moribund TouchPad.
Other tablets, such as the Motorola Xoom, BlackBerry PlayBook, Toshiba Thrive, ASUS Eee Pad and ASUS Eee Slate, ranked even lower on the holiday 2011 scale.
“Apple has experienced enormous success with its groundbreaking iPad, and our survey data confirms that enthusiasm for the brand will likely remain during the 2011 holiday shopping season,” explained Graham Jones, general manager of PriceGrabber (part of Experian).
“We expect that tablets, such as the iPad, will be a clear gift choice for many multitasking, budget-conscious consumers looking for an efficient and convenient computer at a relatively reasonable price.”
