Being a big fan of Pee Wee Herman, it sucked to see him disappear off the face of the earth in the early nineties. Yeah the guy did something inappropriate in a porn theater, which by today’s standards would get a thirty second mention on the news, but Pee Wee’s Playhouse always had a lot of wink-wink, nudge nudge.
In fact, I remember when Pee Wee first came along, his crowd wasn’t families but college kids who got a kick out of what you imagined a kids show host was really like behind the scenes. Now the whole series of Pee Wee’s Playhouse is out on DVD and BluRay through Shout! Factory, and it’s not only getting rave reviews, but Pee Wee himself told Rolling Stone, “There’s going to be a big announcement any minute now.”
Pee Wee was mum on details, but he said this when writer David Fear asked if there would be another Pee Wee movie, he said something is indeed “very imminent.”
Paul Reubens, who plays Pee Wee, is 62 years old, but he should still be able to pull off Pee Wee. Not to mention the last Pee Wee flick, Pee Wee’s Big Top Adventure, was a box office bust, and he should finish off the trilogy with a winner. Ya hear us Pee Wee? We’re waiting…
