Kotaku reports that Sony may be considering a multi-core CPU design to power its next-generation Playstation 4 console.
Citing the Japanese website PC Watch, Kotaku notes that Sony remains determined to find an alternative to the PS3’s “challenging” Cell architecture.
“One early alternative included Cell and Intel’s Larrabee. Wanting a bit more horsepower, Sony has apparently abandoned this plan,” claims Kotaku.
“Sony was also apparently considering a modified version of the Synergistic Processor Unit, but is now supposedly working on designs that include a multi-core CPU.”
