Time to dig into the world of music with this week’s unplugging column. Some sad news this week as one of the true legends of the original punk movement has passed away.
The punk rock community and the rest of the music world lost a legend this past Wednesday when Ari Up, best known for her vocals with The Slits, passed away at the age of 48. John Lyndon, her stepfather and leader of the Sex Pistols, announced on his website that Up passed away due to complications with a “serious illness.” Our condolences to her family, friends, and fans.
Upcoming album announcements this week include the Smashing Pumpkins and Monotonix. The Smashing Pumpkins have announced that their next EP Teargarden By Kaleidyscope: “The Solstice Bare” will be released November 23rd. And Monotonix have announced the release of their sophomore LP, Not Yet, out January 25h.

The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger have released the album version of their track “Jardin Du Luxembourg” – and their upcoming album Acoustic Sessions drops October 26th. Thunderball has released a free download of their track “Enter the Brahmin,” from their fourth album 12 Mile High, which is out November 9th.

Monotonix Announce New Album, New North American Tour Dates: Garage rockers Monotonix have announced the release of their new LP, Not Yet, out January 25th via Drag City. With the announcement of their sophomore release, the group has also announced new US tour dates for December.
