Atari and Cryptic Studios are readying an online D&D roleplaying game set in the besieged city of Neverwinter.
Once a bustling location, the fantasy Neverwinter has faced numerous disasters over the past century.
Rule of the city remains uncertain following the untimely demise of the last Lord of Neverwinter, with factions battling for control after the all-consuming Spellplague took a high toll on the population.
Worse, even Neverwinter’s dead are beginning to rise from their graves and march upon the city they were once proud to call home.
Players are tasked with assuming the role of one of five archetypal D&D classes and teaming up with friends or bots to form five-member co-op groups.
Players can also create their own story lines and quests utilizing a user-friendly content generation system codenamed Forge.
Neverwinter for the PC – which will launch in Q4 2011 – is part of a multi-platform event, including a book trilogy from R. A. Salvatore and a tabletop roleplaying designed by Wizards of the Coast.
