Marvel Talks Gaming

If you’re a fan of Marvel superheroes, you know the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer has been generating very strong buzz on the net. You also may know that Avengers Age of Ultron is currently shooting for a May 2015 release, and that a Doctor Strange movie is may be in the works as well.

So how are the Marvel games developing to go along with all this incredible franchise action? Well, Marvel addressed this recently, and let’s face it, in this day and age it makes good sense to have video games based on their properties. As Variety reports, this was discussed on the “Geek Stage” at the South By Southwest festival.

There’s the Avengers Alliance game, which was first a free app on Facebook, and there’s now two million players, and there will soon be upgrades to coincide with Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Again, the whole idea is to have the Marvel stories all interweave with each other as part of one big universe.

As MTV tells us, there will be Winter Solider additions before the movie launches next month, and a Guardians storyline before that film drops this summer. As one Marvel exec said, “We bring familiar elements and characters from the movies and the comic books, and use them in a unique way that all players can get behind. It’s a really huge, unique, evolving world, and it’s growing all the time.”
