Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg’s Plans For Preacher and the Console Wars

We recently announced on TGD that not only are Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg doing a TV adaptation of the famed graphic novel Preacher, they’re also going to be doing a movie on the original Atari console wars, based on an upcoming book on the subject.

The Preacher series will be done through AMC, and the goal is to stay as true to the comic as possible. As Rogan told Collider, “We’re making it with Sam Catlin who did Breaking Bad…We’re beyond excited, we’ve tried to make it for 10 years. The big difference is everyone else tried to make it a movie and it shouldn’t be a movie. It should be an AMC show, that’s the proper way for it to get done…It’s too big; you can’t do that in a movie.”

As far as the console wars project, they bought the rights to the book, but nobody’s read it yet. “We’re about to sit down and read it,” Rogan confessed. “The dudes [who wrote it] did a cut of their documentary on it, we liked it, and there’s going to be some more work done on that. We haven’t really dug into that one yet…we’re going to tackle Console Wars once we get the outline for Preacher done.”

This console wars story will be about the battle between Sega and Nintendo, and there is indeed a book coming out on the subject, entitled, you guessed it, Console Wars, written by Blake Harris, and it’s coming in May. We feel this could make a fun movie if it’s done in the right spirit, maybe like the classic comedy Used Cars with competing companies going to battle against each other. In the meantime, Preacher looks like it’s finally getting up and running, and maybe it will be next big hit on cable TV.
