It’s been fifteen years since the disaster of the Roland Emmerich / Dean Devlin Godzilla remake, and the latest attempt to revitalize the franchise is coming on May 16, 2014. The new teaser trailer is out, and it gives audiences a good look at what the new model Godzilla looks like.
This Godzilla is clearly taking a much more serious approach than usual, which could be death for the big green guy. Yes, Godzilla was inspired by the real life nuclear horror that hit Japan in the forties, but taking him too seriously could end up killing him. From what we’ve seen so far, it definitely looks promising, and he’s clearly leaving a lot of destruction in his wake.
Some fan reactions we’ve gathered so far, commenters on Deadline wrote, “Works as a teaser,” “Made me forget about Pacific Rim,” and “This. Looks. Awesome.” As another poster points out, “MOST intrigued by the pedigree cast: Juliette Binoche(!), Sally Hawkins, Bryan Cranston, David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe and even Elizabeth Olsen.” Also don’t forget that Frank Darabont did some work on the script.
So it looks like the fanboys are onboard already, and we’re absolutely hoping this next Godzilla will deliver. Looks like so far, so good, the real test of course will be when the finished product is out in the world next summer.
