The reboot of Mad Max, Fury Road, hasn’t had an easy time heading back to the big screen. The film was supposed to have wrapped back in December 2012, but as we just reported here on TGD, it just had to go back for some recent reshoots.
Now it’s going to be a while longer before we finally see the new Mad Max, but as The Wrap reports, Fury Road now has a release date of May 15, 2015. This puts it out right on the heels of the big daddy movie of the summer, Avengers: Age of Ultron, which comes out on May 1. (So far, the only other potential blockbuster coming out in May ’15 is Tomorrowland, which has a May 22 release date.)
This definitely makes it a long time to wait for a new Mad Max flick, and it’s hard to think of a movie’s release date being held up this long. It’s usually not a good sign, but who knows? There have been several movies that were practically remade from scratch. As we saw recently with World War Z, the whole third act was redone late in production, and the film still turned out alright.
Still, however long it takes, we’re still curious to see what a modern day Mad Max could look like. Hardy’s a good choice to play Max, and we indeed hope that like he told the press, they’re “doing more” with the film, “building even more spectacular and cool stuff.”
