Veteran genre director Michael Bay always swore Transformers 3 would be his last film in the popular franchise. Nevertheless, Bay has indeed returned for Transformers 4.
Yes, the geeks are hammering him left and right for allegedly screwing up the new reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but Bay is practically now synonymous with those robots in disguise, and you really can’t imagine anyone else making those movies. Good, bad or indifferent, the Transfomers movies are pure Bay all the way.
There have been reports that the new Transformers was going to be a reboot and start over with an all new cast. But as Bay told Collider, “It’s not a reboot, that’s maybe the wrong word. We’re taking the story that you’ve seen – the story we’ve already told in three movies already – and we’re taking it in a new direction. But we’re leaving those three as the history. It all still counts.”
Interestingly, there’s going to be all new robots in Transformers 4, so Hasbro can also somewhat reinvent the toy series as well.
Even though the third Transformers film did huge business at the box office, the toy merchandising sales for that film wasn’t up to Hasbro’s expectations, so they may be hoping all new toys will sell because fans already have Bumble Bees and Optimus Primes in their collections.
Or, perhaps this is also a knee-jerk reaction after Hasbro’s Battleship was sunk uncermoniously at the box office.
Transformers 4 is scheduled to hit theaters on June 27, 2014, but if you just can’t wait, there’s a new Transformers game that looks like a great deal of fun to play. As reports on Cinema Blend, Game Spy and This Is X Box, the new game is Transformers On Your Street, and that’s exactly what you can set up.
Indeed, with the help of Google Maps Street View, you can set up the Transformers Grimlock and Shockwave to battle outside your address, or probably any other address you put in. On Cinema Blend, they set up a Transformers battle outside Nathan’s, the famous hot dog place in Brooklyn, and there’s plenty of places I’d love to have these guys fight each other, and hopefully destroy some places I’d personally like to see leveled.
