Here’s the first look at Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn.
The episodic series, to be presented exclusively online, is meant to get gamers salivating so they are fully wrapped into a frenzy when the new Halo game launches later this year.
So while it may have messed up the opportunity to turn Halo into a multi million-dollar theatrical movie success, but the highly successful Xbox shooter franchise will be getting transformed into a live-action masterpiece nevertheless.
In Forward Unto Dawn, Master Chief will work with a cadet who is ends up becoming a leader on a UNSC spaceship. Each episode will be 15 minutes and new episodes will be added on a weekly basis.
The show is also aimed at wrangling in new fans who haven’t necessarily played a Halo game yet.
The series will begin on October 5, and will be presented on the website Machinima.
Among the actors in the show is Tom Green, who plays lead character Thomas Lasky. Green was quoted by The Verge as saying, “The Halo games are known for not having a complex storyline with characters who have these relationships with other humans. We don’t get to see faces because they’re all covered with helmets. This is a bit different – it might be a bit confronting at first – but hopefully people will settle into it.”
A press release described the series, saying, “As Lasky comes to terms with his potential as a military leader, the terrifying alien alliance known as the Covenant arrives and turns his world upside down. Inspired by the Master Chief, he must decide what it means to be a hero.”
The Halo franchise is one of Microsoft’s biggest cash cows. Since its initial launch in 2001, more than 40 million Halo games have been sold, generating more than $2 billion in sales. The failed attempt at a big screen adaptation was reported to be at its apex in 2005.
