Back in the 80s when I was a kid, if there was Arnold Schwarzenegger flick, well, you can bet I watched it repeatedly.
Like most of us who grew up in the 80s, Terminator was the first flick where I saw Schwarzenegger – even though it obviously wasn’t the first movie he appeared in. Yet of all the films he was in, one of my favorites remains Total Recall.
So that is probably why I had some seriously mixed feelings when I first read that Total Recall was being remade.
I had even more mixed feelings when I learned that Collin Farrell was going to be playing the lead role. As you probably figured out by now, I’m not exactly a big fan of Farrell.
With the new trailer for Total Recall now live, I must I admit that I do feel somewhat better about Farrell playing Douglas Quaid than I did before. It’s also clear from the trailer that while the new movie keeps with much of the theme and spirit of the original, it’s far from an exact remake. The trailer shows some of the big points in the movie that are in common with the 80’s version.
For example, we see Quaid sitting in the big Recall chair to have his memories implanted, as well as a scene with Quaid traveling through security using a digital version of the infamous fat lady head disguise worn by Schwarzenegger when he passed through Mars security.
In addition to Farrell, the cast also features Kurt Wimmer, Mark Bomback, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel. The new movie is said to be based more on the short story “We Can Remember it for You Wholesale,” written by Phillip K. Dick, rather than the Schwarzenegger version. Will you be seeing this film?
