It seems like only yesterday that Guitar Hero was the hottest thing since sliced bread, then rock music games, like a lot of things in the gaming world, seemingly collapsed overnight. Personally I thought the Guitar Hero phenom was a great thing, and wish it had landed longer.
Well, everything old is new again, and Uproxx tells us Rock Band could be coming back. Two new songs for the game are ready for download, Tenacious D’s Rize of the Fenix, and Weezer’s Back to the Shack, not to mention that Harmonix, the people behind Rock Band, have sent a survey to fans, asking what they feel about the game.
It hasn’t been that long ago that people could be nostalgic for Rock Band and Guitar Hero, or maybe they can. Maybe some gamers indeed miss it and would love to have fun with it again. The whole phenomenon was great because it inspired a lot of kids to play guitar for real, and it helped keep what’s left of the music business alive for a while.
While there’s no confirmation that Rock Band / Guitar Hero could return, many reports feel this could be a good omen of things to come. While the gaming market has a lot of ups and downs, maybe rock video games are due to come back on the upswing again.
