As long time TG readers know, the video game market is tough to weather because even when things are well, it’s tough to stay on top. Nintendo was one classic company that has been struggling, but now they’re reporting a nice sized profit for the quarter.
As Time reports, the company’s Wii U sales have more than doubled from April to September, and the sales have gone up thanks to Mario Kart 8. How much as the company made in profit during that six month period? $132 million. (Within a three month period, July to September, the company made $86 million.)
As Time continues, this is a big comeback for the company, and if things continue like this, Nintendo could see a strong annual profit, its first in four years.
We’ll certainly be watching to see how Nintendo does this holiday season, where the gaming market should go full throttle. Cnet reports that the company will be launching Amiibo, a group of figurines that interact with games, and they’re also hoping Super Smash Brothers will give them a good holiday season as well. It’s good to see Nintendo, and the gaming market, going strong, and we indeed hope they have a very merry, and profitable, Xmas.
