Fringe fans have been worried for some time that Fringe would not be coming back, but on Friday Fox announced its renewal.
I previously mentioned, as a side note in another story, that Fringe producers were already planning a fourth season, confident that it would be returning in the upcoming lineup. Many fans however have been a lot more worried than the producers for a couple of reasons.
First, the show had been moved to a typically unattractive time-slot. Second, many sci-fi fans simply don’t have confidence in the survival of their favorite shows anymore. I understand that. I’m personally terrified of developing attachments to new genre television programs because in the past, it seems like all of my favorites get cancelled before they have time to conclude naturally.
These fans can stop worrying about Fringe for another year, however, as the press release hit Friday, letting everyone know that the show would indeed be back.
“Fringe has truly hit a creative stride and has distinguished itself as one of television’s most original programs,” said Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment at Fox.
“The series’ ingenious producers, amazingly talented cast and crew, as well as some of the most passionate and loyal fans on the planet, made this fourth-season pickup possible.
“When we moved the show to Fridays, we asked the fans to follow and they did. We’re thrilled to bring it back for another full season and keep it part of the Fox family.”
It seems like all those involved in Fringe are really enjoying being part of the project.
“We could not be happier that the fans of Fringe (and our most excellent partners at FOX) have allowed us to continue telling stories from the fringe for another season!” Co-Producer J.J. Abrams said, speaking for the crew.
Of course, no show is without its little flaws, but I have a feeling that Fringe is just going to get better and better with this kind of passion behind it.
