Sigourney Weaver Finds Alien Vs Predator Depressing

Director Neill Blomkamp (District 9) is trying to put together another Alien film, and his concept art is pretty striking stuff. The first two Alien movies were great, we haven’t had a good one since, and it would be cool if somebody could make a worthy follow up to redeem the movie’s legacy.

So now Sigourney Weaver has weighed in on Alien Vs Predator, which lowered the series to the level of Freddy Vs Jason or some other stupid mash up. As Weaver told Time, she found the movie depressing. “It’s like making Alien meets the Wolfman.”

The announcement of Alien Vs Predator “really depressed” Weaver, “because I was very proud of the movies.” Weaver also added that Ridley Scott wanted to come back to the franchise until Alien Vs Predator came along and he bowed out.

As far as the Alien movie that Blomkamp’s working on, Weaver’s much more optimistic. “I love the fact that Neill’s fulfilling his childhood dream of what he hopes will be the popcorn movie, the Alien popcorn movie that he wanted as a kid to see.”
