So finally the teaser trailer for Batman Vs Superman has been released by director Zack Snyder, apparently after the thing had leaked onto the ‘net. It’s often hard to beat the geeks at their own game, so now it’s everywhere to be seen, and our reaction?
Well, we’ve been predicting for quite some time that this movie’s an accident waiting to happen, and this trailer hasn’t changed our opinion on this. (What’s especially befuddling to us is why do Batman’s eyes glow in the dark?)
Now to be fair, what little we’ve seen of Ben Affleck actually isn’t bad, but like a lot of trailers for superhero films, B V S feels very self-important and ponderous, and we’re not surprised to read in the Hollywood Reporter that fan reaction in the geekosphere so far is “a whole lot cooler,” meaning colder, “and crankier…Everything that The Force Awakens seemd to do right, Batman v Superman seemed to do wrong.”
When you think about it, Star Wars had an infinitely tougher row to hoe with fan expectations being so ridiculously high, and so far the traielrs have pleased the fans enormously. But we think B V S still has a long ways to go before convincing people that this was a worthwhile investment. The rest test will be the footage of the other superheroes. If the footage of Wonder Woman, Aqua Man, et al, doesn’t deliver, this flick’s really got problems.
