Simon Pegg is currently out promoting a new movie called Kill Me Three Times, and as he’s out thumping the tub for it. There’s two obvious questions to ask. How’s the writing of Star Trek 3 going, and what was it like to visit the set of Star Wars?
Collider talked to Pegg, and first asked what it’s like to write the screenplay for the third Trek movie. “Terrifying!,” he said. “The timeframe we’re working in is extremely tight. It means we’re having to come up with the goods. We can’t be lazy about it…production is hammering on the door saying, ‘When can we build this? What are we gonna build? Who is in it?”
Even though Pegg is now of course a vet of the new Trek, he adds, “I always treat things with respect…I have to abide by certain rules and do right by the original series.”
Pegg hopes to have his screenplay for the third Trek finished by June, and Paramount wants the movie out in time for the show’s fiftieth anniversary next year.
Pegg also mentioned he visited the set of Star Wars with his daughter, and he has very high hopes for The Force Awakens. “It’s going to be everything that we wanted 16 years ago and didn’t get,” referring to Episode One of course. “I’ve never been on a film set where everyone has been so invested in the material because they are emotionally and intrinsically linked to it.”
