We at TG for years now have been giving our support to diversity in comics. The Falcon may be part of the next Avengers movie, there’s a Black Panther movie coming later in the decade, and there was also a gay marriage in the pages of X-Men.
Now there’s more diversity coming to comics because Catwoman is now announced as being bisexual. This isn’t a big shock really, it’s something you could certainly picture without much difficulty, and as Vanity Fair tells us, Genevieve Valentine, the current Catwoman writer, has Selina Kyle making out with Eiko Hasigawa in the latest issue of the comic.
“When I was first plotting out what I expected to be a six-issue arc,” Valentine said, “there were a few emotional beats I considered indispensable. One was establishing Selina as canon bisexual…this wasn’t a revelation so much as a confirmation.”
While some will dismiss this as a gimmick, it’s a trip that there can be gay and bi comic characters in today’s day and age, when back in the day moral watchdogs thought Wonder Woman was detrimental to kids because she could have been perceived as gay.
