Circuit City is back, sort of

Chicago (IL) – Circuit City is back online, literally. Systemax reanimated the brand as part of its growing network of retail network, which now includes CompUSA.com, TigerDirect.com and CircuitCity.com.

It has been apparent for some time that CircuitCity.com would return in one way or the other. Systemax said that it has acquired the CircuitCity.com domain and the e-commerce business of Circuit City on May 19 and has brought back the site online. Circuitcity.com now co-exists with similar Systemax shopping sites, led by TigerDirect.com. The company also owns and operates CompUSA.com.

Systemax noted that the acquisition also covers customer records of the original Circuit City. Previous Circuit City customers can opt-out of having your personally identifiable information – name, address, email, phone, and purchase history – including  transferred to the new Circuit City. The company guarantees to “purge” personal information of customers who opt-out prior to June 9.
Circuit City closed its last store on march 8 of this year. Prior to its closing, Circuit City was the nation’s second-largest consumer electronics retail chain in the U.S.
