In less than a year, famed PS3 hacker George Hotz has gone from trending news topic to the “Where Are They Now?” files.
To some, he was the guy who managed to crack the PS3’s security and in essence set of a chain that led to the collapse of the system’s entire online network.
To others, he was an idol in the world of iPhone hacking, making the term “jailbreak” a household word and enabling countless people to manipulate the otherwise iron-clad device.
But to a much smaller group, he was a coworker. At the end of June, it was reported that Hotz accepted a job at Facebook, although no details were ever spilled about what his role was at the social networking giant. For a while, though, it was as though he was a normal guy with an office job, making an honest living.
But now we reach the most current chapter in Hotz’s life. Cubicle life just wasn’t cutting it for him so he quit, just half a year after being hired at a company most people would give one of their kidneys to work for.
So what’s he up to now? Yep, he’s back to hacking. BusinessInsider says it happened to meet up with Hotz at a recent hackathon. The event was sponsored by Backplane, a startup founded by none other than Lady Gaga.
“During the hackathon, I got to work with him as he built an app that allows you to see where your Facebook friends are on a map,” BusinessInsider’s Boonsri Dickinson wrote.
But even though he may be the most notorious hacker in recent time, apparently he isn’t the best. His app was outdone by a group of high school students. We look forward to getting another Geohotz update six months from now. Who knows what he’ll be up to then?
