TSA warns bombs can be implanted into bodies

Hmm. I wish I could say I didn’t see this one coming, I really do. But I suppose it is the next logical step for would-be terrorists intent on blowing up airplanes.

That’s right, the TSA is now warning that airline passengers could theoretically implant explosive devices into their bodies.

Ouch.

The technique, which had been considered a distinct possibility in previous years, could, in fact, be reemerging amongst various terrorist groups.

Although there is no actual concrete information suggesting any immediate threats, both the TSA and DHS have warned airlines and foreign nations to be on “the lookout.”

“Due to the significant advances in global aviation security in recent years, terrorist groups have repeatedly and publicly indicated interest in pursuing ways to further conceal explosives. As a precaution, passengers flying from international locations to U.S. destinations may notice additional security measures in place,” confirmed TSA spokesman Nicholas Kimball.

“These measures are designed to be unpredictable, so passengers should not expect to see the same activity at every international airport. Measures may include interaction with passengers, in addition to the use of other screening methods such as pat-downs and the use of enhanced tools and technologies.”

Yikes!

And you thought taking off your shoes at checkpoints and not being able to walk through with an overpriced bottle of airport mineral water was annoying. And let’s not forget (as if anyone could) the already invasive pat-downs, full body scans and generally unpleasant demeanor of incompetent TSA “officials.”

Truthfully, it’s hard to imagine airport security being even more disagreeable than it already is.

But hey, welcome to 2011 in the US of A. It’s a brave new world folks, and not necessarily in a good way.
