Super 8 comes out tomorrow, but in the interim, Paramount has released an interesting three minute video.
The synopsis is this: “Written and directed by Abrams and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Super 8 follows a group of friends in a small Ohio town who, while shooting a zombie movie, witness a train derail and something escape from the wreckage. Soon afterward, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place, and the local deputy attempts to uncover the terrifying truth.”
Apparently, during the film, the main characters get to see a few clips of a top-secret government briefing regarding the monster, and its attack on one of the scientists studying it.
Here is my take on the spolier:
The nature of the monster/alien of the film has been kept secret since the film was announced, and this brief display of what seems to be an arm and hand is the most we’ve ever seen of the creature.
More interesting though, is observing the scientists experiment with the strange cube things we see the children playing with in the trailers for the film.
They seem to be the main structural component of the creature’s ship, while also serving as its power source and control interface. Makes the ship sound more like armor than a vehicle.
Whatever it all is, we’ll find out tomorrow when Super 8 hits theatres. Make sure to check back here in the afternoon for my review.
