Honda leases EV-neo scooters

It’s cute, it’s green and it’s bound to turn heads in the delivery business – it’s the Honda EV-neo electric scooter, and as of now, it’s available for lease sales in Japan.

Honda plans to deliver about 100 of these vehicles – developed for businesses dealing in short runs of heavy cargo, such as delivery services – between December 2010 and March 2011 to partnering businesses.

This is in order to collect riding data and to start lease sales of the EV-neo to general businesses and individual business owners in April 2011.

The scooter sports a range of around 21 miles on a charge and despite its demure stature, is billed as leveraging a motor that–even with the fold-out cargo bed loaded–generates high torque to achieve “powerful starting and hill-climbing performance.”

It makes use of technology developed for the Insight – including an in-house manufactured motor and a lithium-ion battery – and an exclusively developed quick charger enabling full recharge in 30 minutes (in a 77°F environment) for convenient re-charging throughout the business day.
