The once infallible Apple has assured the Japanese government that it will replace overheating, first-gen iPod Nanos on demand.
According to Reuters, the major “concession” came only after Japan’s stringent trade ministry ordered the company to publish an “easy to understand” guide explaining how users could receive replacement batteries and obtain advice.
The first-gen Nano devices have reportedly been responsible for approximately 60 incidents of overheating in Japan, including four cases of minor burns.
Unsurprisingly, Apple continues to maintain that such instances are “very rare” and blames the problem on a single, unnamed battery manufacturer.
For its part, the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)
declared the first-generation iPod Nano a fire hazard and noted it was “truly regrettable” that it took Apple until Sunday to confirm 30 overheating incidents.
