The US CPSC puts customers of HP and Compaq notebooks on notice adding to 70,000 batteries previously recalled last May.
Lithium-Ion batteries used in Hewlett-Packard and Compaq notebook computers, and made in China, are being recalled because, since May 2009, HP has received 38 reports of overheating and rupturing batteries that resulted in 11 instances of personal injury and 31 cases of property damage.
That’s a total of 124,000 batteries recalled in the last year. Check the following diagrams and read the full release here.
If you think you have any of these batteries in your possession, remove them immediately from your notebook, and contact HP at the HP Battery Replacement Program website at http://www.hp.com/support/BatteryReplacement or call (888) 202-4320 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. CT Monday through Friday.
The CPSC and HP say “you may use the AC adapter to power the computer until a replacement battery arrives.” Oh, yeah, don’t eat any computer parts if you get hungry, and never ever try and feed your mouse to your cat.
